Esme Higgs aka ThisEsme is an equestrian social media influencer and then some with her Instagram account currently boasting 169k followers, and YouTube boasting 391k followers. On this episode of the Small & Supercharged Podcast we chat about becoming an influencer, what it was like juggling everything with school work, charity work, highs and lows, and so much else too.

Charity work, YouTube and being ThisEsme with Esme Higgs

Esme is a social media powerhouse and is in serious demand from events and federations too. In addition to working on her own platforms and updating these regularly, Esme has also done work for Hickstead (in fact, she went to Hickstead the afternoon after taking her chemistry A-level!), Dublin Horse Show and has worked with the FEI too. Her work with the FEI has taken her all over the world and also given her the opportunity to interview some of her idols that she’s looked up to for years.

Of course, in addition to the opportunities above, Esme has an impressive list of other things she’s done and places she’s been. She’s met a huge number of people through her channel, ridden William Fox-Pitt’s Badminton horse, hosted meet ups at events and more.

Esme also talks passionately about her charity work. Through her social media, Esme has had the opportunity to work with the RDA, World Horse Welfare, and The Brooke too. With The Brooke, Esme went to Senegal and saw the work that this charity does first hand. She talks about the female farrier The Brooke is training up, the benefits to animals as well as humans that The Brooke’s work has, and so much more too. In fact, Esme is now an ambassador for The Brooke.

We talk about all the highs of what Esme does, but we also talk about the lows including having to keep posting even if you want to go away, being criticised online and how she manages that as well as receiving conflicting criticism.

Esme also shares her top tips when it comes to growing her social media following from the importance of doing it because you’re passionate about it through to being original and not copying other people’s content.

And we also find out why Esme is ThisEsme… did you know why?!
